Astoria's Bohemka 2008 elections
Six members of the Board elected
March 2008 membership meeting of the BCBSA (Bohemian Citizens' Benevolent Society of Astoria, Inc.) was devoted to election of six Board's members. This year the names of nominees were known to members long before elections. Results and how the candidtes were presented to the membership are as follows:

March 28, 2008

JERRY MATEJKA, elected by 61 votes,
was a member of the Board since 1998. During this time the Bohemian Hall emerged from near bankruptcy to the success of today. [HERE] In the past he helped as Acting Secretary, Acting Manager, and Treasurer. With over 35 years of computer experience, he also helped setup the current Accounting System, POS and the website. [HERE - red.] Presently he is also Chairperson of the Finance Committee.

TONY KOCICA, elected by 58 votes,
was member of the BCBSA for 25 years, served on the Board and Housing Committee. Emigrated to the US in 1968, runs auto repairs and real estate business.

FRANK VASEK, elected by 58 votes,
was a new Board member this past year, member of the Finance Committee, promoted utilization of armored car service, independent CPA auditing, and hiring a restaurant consultant. Active in search for a General Manager and evaluating performance of all employees. Professionally in Wall Street Financial Services and Insurance for over 30 years.

HELEN OTYPKA, elected by 57 votes,
was for the past year a member of the Board and Finance Committe. Left CR in 1967, emigrated to NYC in 1968. Professionally a bank accountant and real estate management.

EDWARD SIROKY, elected by 57 votes,
was promotin preservation of the Czech and Slovak cultured improving Bohemian Hall. He is in a general contracting business.

MILADA KUKIKOVA-STASTNY, elected by 53 votes,
origin from Pilsen, represented CSR in figure scating championship (5th nplace) and 1964 Olympics (10th place).

PAVEL VANCURA, not elected with 23 votes,
was president of the BCBSA in 1995 - 2000. now one of the six BCBSA members prosecuted in a civil action for criticizing present Board and present president Bisek. He was also active in opposing to sell the Czech National Hall on 73rd Street of Manhattan to CR for one Dollar. Born in 1954, emigrated to the US in 1985.

ZDENA SPANEK, not elected with 18 votes,
was interested in ative participation in the Society, member for several years. Born in Prague, in the US since 1970..
